What looks like trash to most people is a treasure trove of possibility. I know because I live with one. She's an ENFP type, ADD-inattentive type, OCD, Tourette's syndrome; she's brilliant, she's unpredictable, winsome, witty. She pores over science books about electricity, biology, mechanics. 'Some assembly required' for her is a call to arms. Her greatest joy comes from assembling objects into Rube Goldbergesque contraptions that actually serve a purpose. She is my eight-year-old daughter. The next ten years is going to be wild.
Your article is one of the few I've seen that refers to the term 'bricoleur' in a non-artistic sense. It seems that the term should become more mainstream. As a society, we're probably misdiagnosing many people as hopelessly disorganized and impractical when if we let go of our conventions, we might make new discoveries.

Luckily, I'm an artist by profession and am more patient with her than most. I know she will have so much to offer the world if they can just get past their attempt to squish her into a box.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06958805338846402309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6448048397545596969.post-29794732237687982782012-04-23T23:54:29.292-07:002012-04-23T23:54:29.292-07:00Yes indeed.
